Unlucky Jogger Recalls House Explosion That Left Him Shaken

And that put him right across the street from the house that exploded around 8am on Duchess Ave. near Cawthra and the QEW in Mississauga. It happened just as he went running by.

“I first felt air coming at me and then debris, and then I heard the sound,” he remembers. “I quickly turned and I could see all this mass of material coming out. It was very eerie. It was in slow motion. Everything was happening in slow motion.”

The debris cut both his legs and his head and he needed at least 100 stitches. But he survived otherwise unscathed. He admits it wasn’t the kind of thing he was expecting to happen in his normally quiet area.

As if the story isn’t odd enough, Allen once owned the home that vapourized in the blast, but he sold it about ten years ago. The new owner also put it on the market, and the deal was supposed to close on Monday.

Meanwhile, Allen claims he’s learned his lesson from his close encounter with the Grim Reaper. And he doesn’t intend to sleep in anymore.

“Normally I get up around 6:30 and I go for the run,” he laughs. “This morning I slept in. That made all the difference in the world.”
