Sox Snap Losing Streak With Win Over Jays

It was without doubt an awkward, and for the Blue Jays, unfortunate way for the Boston Red Sox to snap a six-game losing streak.

Alex Cora hit a fly ball in the seventh that Alex Rios promptly got under, looking for an easy catch.   Instead, he bobbled the ball and actually bounced it over the wall for a two-run homer that booster the Sox to a 6-5 win.

Cora stepped to the plate with the score tied at 4-4 and seemed like an unlikely candidate to put one out of the park, considering he hadn’t homered in his last 245 at-bats.

But that all changed when Rios sauntered towards the three-foot fence and helplessly watched as the ball hit his glove and bounced into the frenzied crowd at Fenway.

The fumble proved heartbreaking to pitcher Roy Halladay, who gestured disgustingly when the ball went over the fence.

Before the game, the Sox, who trailed the Al East-leading Yankees by eight games, traded David Wells to San Diego for a player to be named.
