Friends And Family Vow To Protect The Memory Of The Lone Dawson College Victim

Very few have ever heard of Anastasia De Sousa.

And that’s something her family vows to change. She’s the lone student fatality in the killer’s rampage of death and those who knew her are outraged that most of the attention given to the incident is all being focused on the gunman.

They want you to know that Anastasia was an 18-year-old with a bright smile, a brighter future, a girl who loved to travel, spoke three languages and made pink her signature colour.

“She’s really special, our little pink angel,” her aunt Natalya Hevey assures, her voice unsteady. “We say now she’s looking over us with her pink wings. She was not only my niece but my godchild. The only thing I did not do for this child was give birth to her.”

Hevey will never forget how the family first heard about the emergency at Dawson College on Wednesday and how they began to get an eerie feeling when they couldn’t reach Anastasia.

Amid the panic and confusion, it was eight long and terrible hours before they received the worst news possible – their beloved little girl had been killed by the merciless assassin. The hours that followed were even longer.

But those who knew her are determined to carry on her memory and draw attention away from Gill.

“Her body might not be with us anymore,” Hevey relates. “But her spirit and her life will always stay in our hearts. And I want the people to remember not just now but for the future…this killer’s name will be plastered all over. He’s going down in the books but you know what? Remember Anastasia Rebecca De Sousa.”

A website has been set up for condolences for the ‘pink angel’. You can leave your message by clicking here.

A special site is being constructed by the family. It’s expected to be up and running soon.

Meanwhile, a massive turnout is expected at Anastasia’s funeral on Tuesday. The family has asked everyone who’s attending to wear something pink in her honour.
