The 12th annual Toronto Marathon will take over several streets – many will by fully closed while other routes are only partially affected. If you have to venture downtown you’re encouraged to take public transit.
More than 10,000 runners from 32 countries are expected to take part in the massive event, which kicked off at 9am at Mel Lastman Square and should wrap up by mid-afternoon at Queen’s Park. It also includes a half marathon, and a 5km run. Organizers expect traffic will start moving again along the run route by about 4pm.
Many of the people taking part in the run, which is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, are raising money for various local charities, but the main beneficiary is the Princess Margaret Hospital.
