Testicle Trouble

The name may be a little distasteful, but it sure gets people talking.

Earlier this week the Fort Myers Beach Council voted 4-1 in favour of letting the Turkey Testicle festival keep its name.

The owners of the Surf Club bar run the food festival, which is now allowed to run for its fourth year after a debate in the Sunshine State city council.

Two councilmen had raised concerns about the word testicle being used in the festival’s title, but in the event’s defence, another councilman listed more than 12 other cities that host annual events with the name testicle.

One of the opposing politicians reversed his position on the name while the other continued his opposition.

The Turkey Testicle festival raises about $3,000 a year for the Harry Chapin Food Bank.

While there may be those who don’t care for the name, it does have a certain ring to it. For instance, the Turkey Naughty Bits festival just doesn’t roll off the tongue like the Turkey Testicle Festival.
