More and more is expected of modern athletes, and the East York Goliaths’ Daniel Smith doesn’t disappoint. He plays both offence and defence and will be a key player when his team faces off against the Northern Red Knights in the high school football final on Friday.
“When you see big guys coming after you, you run,” he says, offering a humble analysis. “It makes you run faster so let’s be honest. I don’t know if you classify me as a football player. I just run. That’s what I do.”
His coach is more than happy with his performance on the gridiron.
“Daniel first came out to us in grade 9, had never played football before and we were extremely pleased with him,” says Glenn Edwards. “He’s a tall young lad. He is probably the most gentle of large people I have ever met in my life.”
Congratulations Daniel, you’re the Athlete of the Week.
