Raptors A Wreck On Road

Is the same old story unfolding in Raptorland?

Despite the usual declarations of being vastly improved over the off-season, the Raptors have crawled out of the gates once again.   Their 2-8 record to start the 2006 campaign isn’t much better than the 1-9 debacle in ’05.

And the road woes are only getting worse.   The team returned from a five game Western road swing without a win, falling to Sacramento, Golden State, the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver, and Utah.

Their next game is set for Wednesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers at the A.C.C.

Despite the similar records between this year and last, the players still believe they’re a better ball team.

“It’s not close,” said Chris Bosh. “I think last year we really got down on ourselves. This year, we’re not getting down on ourselves.”

“Last year’s team was different than this year’s team,” adds veteran Morris Peterson said. “I feel a lot more confident going into games this year.”

Head coach Sam Mitchell put his players to work immediatley following their return, although he claims their recent losses had nothing to do with the extra work on the court.

“This practice was scheduled before last night and we explained to (the players) why,” Mitchell said. “One, I don’t believe in punishment practices. We’ve lost games, but what are we going to punish them for? The effort’s there, they’re working together.”
