Principal Forced To Eat Bugs In Front Of Students For A Good Cause

That’s what one woman chowed down on Thursday, taking a bad meal for a good cause.

The scene was Dallington Public School in North York. The location was the gymnasium. The lead actor in this real life drama was the school’s principal. And the menu – well, you’ve just read the menu.

What would move someone to eat such a bizarre meal?

It’s so others can eat something far better.

Danila Duliunas agreed to the reprehensible repast after she challenged her students to raise 500 pounds of goods for the Daily Bread Food Bank.

She never imagined the little kids who attend the school could reach some an astounding goal. But she underestimated the power of the peewees to see their principal humiliated. In the end, they raised more than 1,100 pounds of incredible edibles and true to her vow, the woman at the top rose to the challenge.

As nearly the entire student body gathered in the gym, a chant of “eat it, eat it, eat it!” rang out – and Duliunas did just that.

She began with the slimiest of the creatures, a  larvae snack that closely resembled maggots. It didn’t necessarily go easily – but she kept it down. Then came the ants. Next course was a few crickets. And for finally, for dessert, some worms.

Through it all, the good sport faced her own Fear Factor with good humor. “The worms, these are not good,” she told her young charges. “I do not recommend the worms to any of you.”

How does she rate her meal? “Uh, the slimy one was the worst,” she answers.

But in the end, true to her profession, Duliunas also did it to teach the kids the most important lesson of all.

“To raise awareness among the children to help some of the neediest families who perhaps don’t have what we do,” she relates.

She’s now become a true hero amongst the students, who rate their bugged out principal in way few are ever judged. “She’s so cool!” they sing in unison.

The food bank gets the donation on Friday. And Duliunas? She’ll probably be celebrating her kids’ remarkable achievement. But she may not want to go out to dinner to do it.
