Police Arrest Seven In Gang Sweep

Police swarmed a Vanauley Walk housing complex just after 7:00pm Wednesday night in a gang sweep targeting members of the “Project Originals’, who authorities contend have been engaged in serious criminal acts in the area since the late 80s.

O ne by one police escorted the men in handcuffs to waiting cruisers.   In total seven people were arrested, with being five alleged members of the notorious and long-standing gang.

The group are well known for violent robberies and cocaine trafficking in the area near Augusta and Queen.

Police say the members now in custody are high-ranking members of the gang and that their arrests came after months of investigation, which also recently led to charges being laid in the Regent Park area.

The sweeps are part of the Guns and Gangs crackdown, which also crumbled the Malvern and Jamestown Crews.

Police say the arrests of key ‘ Projects Originals’ will significantly curb gang violence in the area, but with an estimated thirty members still at large, the investigation is ongoing.

All seven suspects remain in custody and face numerous charges including robbery and trafficking cocaine.
