The already nasty custody battle between Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger took an even uglier turn this week with the release of a hot-tempered voicemail message from Baldwin.
The Oscar-nominated star erupted on the message, which was aimed at his 11-year-old daughter Ireland.
“You don’t have the brains or the decency as a human being,” he said after she apparently didn’t pick up the phone for a scheduled call.
“I don’t give a damn that you’re 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you’re a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn’t care about what you do as far as I’m concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone.”
At one point he apparently called the youth a “rude, thoughtless little pig.”
According to celebrity news website TMZ.com, the call was made on April 11.
Baldwin’s spokesperson released a statement this week saying that the actor would “do what the mother is pathologically incapable of doing … keeping his mouth shut and obeying the court order.
“The mother and her lawyer leaked this sealed material in violation of a court order,” the statement claimed. “Although Alec acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child, everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years.”
Basinger’s spokeswoman, meanwhile, said the tape “speaks for itself.”
The couple was married in 1993, but in 2001 Basinger filed for divorce.
She was charged with contempt of court last fall for reportedly violating terms of a custody agreement reached in 2004. A motion to dismiss the charges was denied this week in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Another custody hearing is supposed to take place on May. 4.
