Lovelorn Astronaut Didn’t Wear Adult Diapers To Catch Up To Rival: Lawyer

She didn’t wear an adult diaper during her marathon journey. That’s the contention of the lawyer for Lisa Nowak, the former NASA astronaut accused of plotting to kidnap and harm her perceived rival in a bizarre love triangle that made headlines earlier this year.
You likely remember the story, which became internationally famous after it was revealed that Nowak allegedly had an affair with fellow spaceman Bill Oefelein. When the relationship ended and he took up with another woman, authorities alleged a spurned and angry Nowak got into her car in Houston and drove non-stop to Orlando to catch up to “the other woman”. Police contend she wore adult diapers to ensure she didn’t even have to stop for a bathroom break. In a strange confrontation at the Florida city’s international airport, Nowak allegedly pepper sprayed Colleen Shipman, and may have had other ideas in mind. Cops found various weapon in the former flyer’s car, including a steel mallet and a knife.
But after a hearing in Florida on Friday, Nowak’s attorney took extra care to note the story about the diaper simply isn’t true. “The biggest lie in this preposterous tale that has been told is that my client drove from Houston, Texas, to Orlando, Fla., nonstop, wearing a diaper,” Donald Lykkebak maintains. “That is an absolute fabrication.” He was trying to get key evidence suppressed in court, including statements his client made to police and the alleged weapons, which he says were obtained without a warrant.
And how to explain those diapers? They were toddler-sized, several years old, and had been used by her family when Houston was evacuated in 2005 during hurricane Rita. That’s why they were still in her car, concludes Lykkebak.
Nowak was dismissed from NASA a month after her February arrest. She’s charged with attempted kidnapping, battery and burglary with assault and will go on trial to answer the accusations in September.
