Royals Youngster Keeps Jays Grounded

It just wasn’t the Blue Jays’ night in Kansas City Saturday.
As it has been so many times this season, Toronto simply couldn’t muster the necessary offence, instead wasting a decent performance by a young pitcher in what ended as a 4-1 loss to the lowly Royals.
Dustin McGowan went 6 1/3 innings allowing just three earned runs on six hits, his only real mistake coming in the form of a two-run shot to Alex Gordon in his final frame. The drive gave the American League Central’s perennial punching bag enough to cruise past John Gibbons’ club and Toronto’s lone run game on a round-tripper from catcher Gregg Zaun.
On the other side, baby-faced phenom Leo Nunez dazzled the Blue Birds, getting touched for just one run on two hits over six.
David Riske and Joakim Soria took over for the youngster, with the latter earning his 13th save with a little help from Joey Gathright, who made a sensational play to rob Aaron Hill of a two-run shot with two outs in the ninth.
Toronto has two more games in K.C. before returning to the Rogers Centre to open a set against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
