Canada Falls To Argentina At Olympic Basketball Qualifiers

The score was fairly close, but Team Canada head coach Leo Rautins was blunt in his assessment of his team’s play during a 85-70 loss to Argentina at the FIBA Americas Olympic qualifying tournament Tuesday.

“We got our ass kicked,” Rautins said. “We just came out and we were not ready to play and Argentina is too good to allow that to happen.”

Houston Rockets forward Luis Scola had 23 points and six rebounds for Argentina while Toronto Raptors forward Carlos Delfino added 15 points and six rebounds.

Dave Thomas of Brampton, Ont., scored 13 points and managed to impress a crusty Rautins for the Canucks.

“Dave Thomas did good job of fighting and working hard,” the Canadian coach said. “He fought like a dog out there.”
