Three Die After Greyhound Bus Rolls Into Ditch In Alberta

A Greyhound bus skidded on a slick stretch of highway and rolled into a ditch in northwestern Alberta on Tuesday, killing three passengers.

The accident happened north of Grand Prairie in the pre-dawn hours. At one, point five victims were trapped underneath the vehicle.

The frightening incident took place at around 6:20am, on Highway 43.

“The injuries would be severe. STARS (air ambulance) is assisting transporting people to the hospital,” said RCMP Const. Scott Hagarty.

Twenty-nine people, including the driver, were on the bus.  All were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“We don’t know at this time the severity of the injuries and we’re looking at setting up hotel arrangements in Grande Prairie for passengers,” Greyhound spokesman Dave Hickie said.

“We’re currently investigating. We’re trying to put together the details.”

The driver had one year of experience with the bus line, but it’s believed weather played a major factor in the accident.
