Team Canada Advances To Final With 4-1 Win Over U.S.

What was expected to be a close clash between bitter rivals ended up being a one-sided affair as Team Canada thumped the United States 4-1 on Friday afternoon at the World Junior Hockey Championship.

Shawn Matthias scored first for Canada in the second period and Karl Alzner, Colton Gillies and Brad Marchand had the other goals for the winning side.

“We had our best game by far,” Alzner said. “Right from start to finish, we wanted it so bad and we came to play.”

American James vanRiemsdyk spoiled Steve Mason’s shutout bid with a goal late in third.

The win propelled the Canucks to the finals, where they will face Sweden on Saturday for international supremacy.

If Canada manages to secure the weekend win, it will be their fourth straight gold medal.

The Americans will now take on Russia for the bronze medal.
