A flight from the Dominican Republic to Canada made an emergency landing at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after eight passengers complained of being sick.
Airport spokesman Greg Meyer says Air Transat flight 477 was quarantined on the runway after it landed late Tuesday.
U.S. Centres for Disease Control officials later determined the sick passengers were not suffering from any airborne illness. Authorities say the eight passengers are hospitalized and Meyer says they are all family members who had eaten together earlier.
Other passengers had little to say about the incident, other than that it was a mild disturbance.
” They were vibrating, sweating, just freaking out,” one recalled. “It was more annoying than anything.”
“I don’t think anybody on the plane would say that they were afraid,” added another.
Meyer says the CDC cleared the remaining 245 passengers and nine crew members and the flight continued its trip to Edmonton early Wednesday morning.
