Warning Issued Over Beef Contaminated With E. Coli

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued another food recall warning Saturday, urging the public to avoid certain ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.

Steakhouse Beef Burgers from M&M Meat Shops across Canada bearing Code Date 0858 and Belmont Meat Products from Ontario Costcos with the UPC code 0 60597 35020 9 are among the reportedly affected products.

Also potentially affected are ground beef packages of varying weights sold in the following Toronto stores between March 13 and 21, 2008.

  • Lone Tai Supermarket, 2300 Lawrence Ave. E.
  • Hong Tai, 2555 Victoria Park Ave.
  • Ton Tai, 3030 Don Mills Rd.

CFIA officials are warning consumers that might have purchased any of these products and still have them in their freezers to avoid consumption, although no cases of illness have been reported.

Food contaminated with E. coli may not look or smell spoiled, but consumption of any contaminated food could cause serious, or even life threatening injuries.
