Woman Fired For Giving Tot A Free Timbit

A Timbit temporarily cost a mother of four a lot after she lost her job at a popular coffee chain outlet for giving one of the deep fried treats to an 11-month-old child for free, according to a report.

Nicole Lilliman received her walking papers Wednesday from a Tim Hortons in London, Ont. The 27-year-old, who had worked at the location for three years, handed a Timbit to a baby who came in with her mother – a regular customer – without collecting the required 16 cent fee.

She admits she thought of going to her purse to get some change to pay for the little globule of dough the youngster was pointing for, but said she was just too busy. She gave the tot the treat because she was crying for it and her mother had been having a bad day.

The Timbit incident happened Monday and Lilliman was hauled into the office about it Wednesday where three managers confronted her and told her she’d been caught on surveillance tape giving away free food to a child.

Tim Hortons district manager Nicole Mitchell says employees are prohibited from giving away free products, period, no matter how small.

Timbits are often given away to customers’ pets for free, but Mitchell said those are usually day-olds.

The senior vice president of the popular chain admitted the incident was handled badly by an “overzealous” manager.

Lilliman wasn’t unemployed for long – she was reportedly offered a position at another Tim Hortons, which she has accepted.
