Two-Alarm College Fire Sparked In Restaurant

A two-alarm fire had residents out of their apartments and onto the street shortly after midnight Tuesday.

The blaze began in a ground-floor restaurant, and officials first believed it was sparked by cooking oil or grease. It now seems that an electrical problem is to blame.

Crews arrived and were finished battling the flames by 12:40am.

Fortunately, there were no injuries and the tenants were able to return to their apartments.

“We smelled a lot of burning,” describes Simon Hooper, who lives in the affected building.

“We looked around, went into the back of our like balcony and saw a lot of smoke and then I saw an explosion go up and the flames.pretty big itself and the smoke just went massive.”

Damage is estimated at $125,000.
