There’s only a week left on the campaign trail, and the Conservative party has yet to release a platform.
In Ottawa Monday, Stephen Harper revealed one element of the plan. The full version is expected Tuesday.
He kicked off Day 30 with a promise to boost the child-care benefit. Harper promised that his party would index the Universal Child Care Benefit to inflation, a number he claims would translate into an additional $50 million for parents.
He also pledged that single-income, sole-support parents wouldn’t pay taxes on that money, saving families another $50 million.
Families with children under the age of 6 are eligible for the benefit. Currently, the payment is $100 per child, and it is taxed.
