More Details Emerge About Victims Of Buffalo Plane Crash

Investigators continue to comb through the rubble of Thursday’s deadly plane crash in Buffalo. As victims’ bodies are removed, a clearer picture of their lives and the accident itself are beginning to emerge.

The recovery effort is being hampered by ice forming on the crash site, and it may take a few days to recover all of the victims.

The Canadian-built Dash 8 went down shortly after the crew noticed ice build-up on the aircraft’s wings and windshield. Icing is just one of several possible factors the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating as a cause.

Continental flight 3407 landed flat on a Buffalo home, killing a man inside. His wife and daughter managed to escape unharmed.

Canadian Don McDonald was onboard the flight along with 48 others, including human rights activist Alison Des Forges, two members of Jazz musician Chuck Mangione’s band, and the 24-year-old co-pilot, Rebecca Shaw.

“We kind of keep expecting Becky to come around the corner and say it’s not real,” revealed Shaw’s mother, Lynn Morris.

Hamilton native Jeff Smith and his family were thankful for their narrow miss. A flight attendant advised them that the ill-fated route would be too turbulent for their children, so they changed flights at the last minute. Their luggage was still on flight 3407.
