12-Year-Old GTA Gymnast Battles Bone Cancer With Community’s Help

Osteosarcoma – it’s a hard word for anyone. So imagine coming to grips with it at 12 years old.

Well that’s the battle Erica Scarff is waging, but eight months after she was diagnosed with the bone cancer she’s still doing what she loves best – gymnastics.

Doctors first discovered the youngster’s illness after she broke a leg participating in her favourite sport. When she received her X-rays, the cause was determined to be Osteosarcoma – the same cancer Terry Fox had.

This January, Erica also lost her leg and underwent extensive chemotherapy.

The good news? She’s gotten some pretty big international support from the likes of Heather Mills, which says nothing of her whole community doing what it can to help.

For example, at the Domino’s Pizza at Matheson and Mavis, you can simply order a special and contribute $5 to the little girl’s cause.
