Power Outage Affecting Stretch Of Midtown Toronto Ends For Most

A power outage that affected a stretch of midtown Toronto ended after several hours Wednesday.

Approximately 1,500 hydro customers were dealing with the blackout, which began at about 5:30am. By 9am, the lights were still out.

The affected area was bounded by Eglinton Ave. to the north, St. Clair Ave. to the south, Bathurst St. to the west, and Avenue Rd. to the east.

The outage also affected the Spadina subway line, slowing but not stopping service.

Toronto Hydro tells CityNews.ca a cable fault was to blame for the outage, although crews still aren’t quite sure what caused it. All but a handful of customers near Eglinton Ave. W. are back on the grid. That small pocket may not get the lights back until sometime Wednesday night.
