Three Hurt In Wasaga Crash

Three people have been hurt in a car crash at Wasaga Beach.

The OPP allege that they tried to stop a car that was heading east on River Rd E around 2:30am on Sunday.

But the vehicle didn’t slow down. Instead, it left the roadway and rolled, ending up in a ditch on Flos Rd 10 West.

Everyone inside the vehicle was taken to Collingwood General Marine Hospital.

The SIU is now investigating.

Still, police say that this long-weekend, the roads are not as bad as expected.

It’s normally a deadly time of year, but so far, Ontario has seen only one.  Mitchell Kelley, 18, died when his Ford Explorer rolled early Saturday in Niagara Falls. He was the only person inside the car.

Another teen, a 19-year-old from Richmond Hill, was injured in a motorcycle crash in Barrie on Saturday afternoon.

Officers are out in droves for their traditional holiday weekend safety blitz. Aggressive drivers and motorists with improperly secured cargo will be pulled over, and the fines for driving under the influence dramatically increased on May 1.

If you get caught behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level between 0.05 and 0.08, you will automatically have their licence suspended for three days – and that’s for a first offence.

Anyone pulled over a second time with a blood alcohol level in the range will face a one-week suspension and must attend an alcohol education program.

Three strikes, and drivers lose their licences for a month and may only be allowed to drive vehicles equipped with a breath-screening device.

Previously, blowing in the warning zone would only result in a 12-hour licence suspension, no matter how many times a driver had been caught.
