Ignatieff Could Call For Election On Monday

Canadians could be heading to the polls this summer – and we could find out as early as Monday.

Michael Ignatieff has not yet said whether he will support the economic report card issued by the minority Conservative government.

The Bloc Quebecois and the NDP have already announced their plans to vote against the financial report.

All Members of Parliament will vote on the budget estimates on Friday.

If newly-minted Liberal leader agrees with the other opposition parties, Parliament would come to a halt just as the spring session ends.

Even if the government fails, there’s no guarantee an election would be called.

But if it goes through, it would be the fourth federal election in five years.

All opposition parties have expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the economy.

Last week, the Liberals threatened to try to pull the plug on the minority government if the report did not show real progress in the rolling out of $22.7 billion in stimulus spending.
