Popcorn Chatter is a weekly rundown of the top movie news gathered online by Brian McKechnie exclusively for CityNews.ca.
Mind blowing images from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland
Yup, Tim Burton is making a live action Alice in Wonderland adaptation. In typical Burton fashion the film has a bizarre look to it. Could be a little darker than we think too. It stars Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway as the The White Queen, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, Michael Sheen as The White Rabbit, Alan Rickman as The Caterpillar, Crispin Glover as The Knave of Hearts and Matt Lucas as both Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Newcomer Mia Wasikowska plays Alice. Although I expect the film to be an amazing ride, I’ll let the images below do the talking.
First look at the new Clash of the Titans
Haven’t heard much about the upcoming Clash of the Titans remake other than it seems to have an amazing cast. Liam Neeson as Zeus, Ralph Fiennes as Hades and Terminator Salvation‘s Sam Worthington as Perseus make this quite a promising venture. After seeing the sneak peek images of Worthington (below) I’m more excited about the project than I was before. Although the original is a classic, we’ve come a long way with special effects thanks mainly to pioneer Ray Harryhausen (the 1981 Titans was the last film he did effects for funny enough). I’m predicting they’re going to go all out with this and blow us away (hopefully we’ll see a trailer soon to back that statement up). For those who forgot the original I’ve included the trailer below too.
CFC befriends Satan
The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) has been releasing episodes for an online series called My Pal, Satan since June 22. The show, which is set in an apartment with Satan in the role of roommate to the dowdy Donna, is very well produced, funny and the acting of Jefferson Brown (as Satan) and Rachel Wilson (Donna) is brilliant. According to author Douglas Coupland the show is, “Way funnier than TV, yet way too good for the Internet. You can’t believe the places it takes you.” I agree. The short episodes are released every Monday and Thursday until July 9. Hopefully we’ll see something bigger come out of this. Watch the show at http://www.mypalsatan.com/.
