Police officers descended on an upscale Etobicoke condo Thursday afternoon after reports of a frightening home invasion earlier in the morning.
At about 4am Thursday, it’s alleged as many as five burglars stormed a home at 700 Humberwood Blvd. tying up two adults and a baby and demanding $70,000. They threatened to kill the family if the money was not in their hands by the end of the day.
When the suspects left, reportedly to pick up the cash at a nearby complex on Rowntree Rd., the city’s Emergency Task Force sprung into action. They shut down streets in the area and surrounded the second building, but came up empty-handed in the search for culprits.
Humberwood resident John Chambers says it’s unusual to have something like this happen in that location.
“It’s a really nice building and when you see stuff like this, it puts a stigma on the building,” he stated.
All detectives will say is they’re investigating what appears to have been an extortion attempt.
