Son Accused Of Killing Mother Appears In Court

A man accused of killing his own mother appeared in court on Tuesday.

John Boukhalfa, 26, wore a white jumpsuit and looked stunned as he faced a judge.

He’s charged with second-degree murder in the death of Antonia Catherine Zammit, 62. Boukhalfa was remanded into custody and will return to court on December 21.

Abderra Zammit, the father of the accused, also appeared, but left the courtroom crying.

Boukhalfa’s lawyer said he believes his client may have a possible mental health issue.

Zammit was found dead in her apartment early on Monday morning, suffering from obvious signs of trauma.

In a terrible coincidence, Zammit spoke with CityNews in May when a 14-year-old boy who lived in the same apartment building was killed. Adrian Johnston was gunned down in a hydro field.

“He was always quiet, happy and smiling,” she said earlier this year.

This time, it was Adrian’s mother who remembered Zammit.

“She was a nice lady,” Stephanie Johnston recalled.

“Nobody would have ever expected that to happen to her.”
