TTC fare hike kicks in Sunday

A brand new year brings a brand new TTC fare.

The fare hike kicks in Sunday as of 9am.

TTC riders will now have to dish out an extra 25 cents for an adult ticket as the fare jumps from $2.75 to $3.

TTC Chairman Adam Giambrone urges riders to use any tickets that were purchased before today as quickly as possible.

“Tickets will continue to be usable until the end of January,” he said. “So people can continue to use them, in fact, they should because they won’t be valid and are non-refundable after the end of January.”

The sale of tokens also goes up Sunday from $2.25 to$2.50.

Metropasses have risen from $109 to $121 a month but for students and seniors the price stands at $99.

Some colleges and universities are continuing to offer a discounted metropass.

But a new provision starting in September will allow people in post-secondary schools, regardless of age, to get the same metropass price as those available to students.
