Liberal Ads Take Aim At Harper’s Decision To Shut Down Parliament

Michael Ignatieff’s Liberals went on the offensive Sunday, rolling out ads that take straight aim at the Harper government’s decision to put Parliament on ice until March.

The move signals the Liberals are ready to borrow a page from the Conservative play book – running advertisements designed to raise doubts in the minds of voters.

A print ad features a sign hung outside Parliament Hill with the words, “Closed out of self interest.”

A radio spot accuses Prime Minister Stephen Harper of shuttering Parliament in order to cover up controversy over Canada’s handling of Afghan detainees.

Harper has defended his decision to end the parliamentary session as a “routine” matter.

He says it will allow the government to recalibrate its economic agenda as the country emerges from recession.
