Whiter Teeth, Naturally

Many people turn to expensive whitening products and procedures to brighten their teeth, but a dazzling smile could be as nearby as the kitchen pantry.

Greens like broccoli, lettuce and spinach create a film over the teeth that block stains while celery, apples and carrots are natural stain removers.

Eating a few ounces of yogurt a day could prevent gum disease and tooth loss, and green and black teas contain fluoride.

Which foods and drinks should you avoid?

“Blueberries, blackberries, tea and coffee, wine – those are the things that are major stainers for people,” explains dentist, Dr. Jack Slome.

“Your teeth are not perfectly smooth so it can stick on the tooth and that’s where the stain comes from.”

Slome says drinks like sodas and OJ are bad for your teeth because they contain acid, which strips the enamel.

“Acidic things ruin your enamel – orange juice, acidic drinks, again the red wine. They make your enamel rougher and more susceptible to being stained.”
