Visitation For Slain OPP Officer Thurs.

Thousands of police officers from across the country attended the visitation for slain OPP officer Vu Pham as his accused murderer remained under police guard in a London hospital.

The mourners filed through a Wingham funeral home Thursday, where gold and blue ribbons – the colours of the provincial police force – line the streets.

Pham, a 15-year OPP veteran and a married father of three, was fatally shot after he left his cruiser Monday during a traffic stop near Seaforth. Fred Preston, a 70-year-old Sundridge man, is accused killing Pham in a shootout. He was charged late Wednesday with first-degree murder and with the attempted murder of another officer.

A full police funeral will be held Friday at 1pm at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex – the same arena where Pham took his three sons to play hockey.

The victim and the accused likely knew each other several years ago when Pham was growing up in Sundridge.
