TORONTO, Ont. – Canadians can expect to hear some new security rules for shipping cargo by air.
Federal transport minister John Baird will make the announcement 3:00 Monday afternoon at the Air Canada Cargo Centre on Britannia Road. Other federal ministers will make similar statements on Halifax, Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver.
Security experts have criticized the rules for shipping cargo, as passengers are subjected to thorough searches, and carry on and checked luggage are scanned, but most cargo is shipped without any close examination. This provides an easy way for criminals to exploit the system.
