StreetBeat – May 24 – Driver Charged In Fatal Crash With Motorcycle

A 43-year-old Toronto man has been charged after a crash which killed a motorcyclist Tuesday morning.

Police say just before 10:30am, Lukman Kabir was driving his Ford Explorer south on Orton Park Road when he veered into the northbound lanes and collided with a Harley-Davidson.

The 53-year-old driver of the bike – who lived in the area and was on his way to meet friends – was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers from 41 Division charged Kabir with criminal negligence causing death. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.

“This is the time of year that motorcyclists do come out. It’s a smaller vehicle, just like our cyclists. It’s a vulnerable vehicle,” said Cst. Hugh Smith of Traffic Services.
