Rob Ford speaks out about taped phone conversation

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto mayoralty candidate Rob Ford said a recording of a phone conversation where he apparently agreed to get drugs for an HIV-positive man was the result of a good deed gone terribly wrong.

The taped conversation was obtained by the Toronto Sun.

At a news conference, Thursday, Ford admitted he made those comments captured on tape, but said they could be taken out of context.

In the taped conversation, the man apparently asks Ford to help him find OxyContin because doctors wouldn’t give him any more.

He added the conversation was only designed to get the agitated man off the phone without provoking him.

“I feared for my safety, he clearly said on the tape that he could see my house. In my opinion, this person needs help,” Ford said.

Ford also said he was set up possibly by the same people who would like to see him not elected as mayor of Toronto.

He also said the same man has also threatened MPP Donna Cansfield.
