Overnight Power Outages Across Toronto

Several people likely had an uncomfortable sleep due to overnight power outages across the city.
The blackouts early Tuesday came hours after a widespread outage affected hundreds of thousands of people late Monday afternoon on one of the hottest days of the year.
Power went out around 3am in pockets of the city stretching from Islington to Dufferin — mainly between Steeles and Jane.
Scattered blackouts were also reported in areas of Etobicoke, East York and Scarborough. Hydro crews worked through the early morning hours to restore power. It’s not yet known what caused the outage.
Toronto Hydro said about a dozen areas across the city were without power Tuesday morning.
Hours earlier an explosion and fire at a transformer station near Kipling and the Queensway cut power to a large swath of the city Monday. The outage, which hit around 4:45pm, affected approximately 250,000 customers.
Power was fully restored to most areas by 9:30pm.
