John Tory Considering Entering Mayoral Race: Report

Another well-known and high-profile Torontonian is considering entering the city’s mayoral race.

John Tory confirmed in January that he wouldn’t be running for mayor and announced he would instead chair the Toronto City Summit Alliance. But a report in the Toronto Star claims he may be ready to throw his hat in the ring.

Tory, who also hosts a show at Newstalk 1010, has reportedly received emails of support from political heavyweights, including former Ontario premier Mike Harris. The report says two privately commissioned polls have also shown Tory would do well facing off against front-runners George Smitherman and Rob Ford.

The former head of the Ontario Progressive Conservatives is reportedly expected to make a decision within the next week, or so.

Tory ran for mayor in 2003 and lost a by-election last year, forcing him to resign as the PC leader.
