Dalai Lama wraps up visit to Canada

TORONTO – The Dalai Lama is wrapping up his Canadian visit today — a trip which saw him address tens of thousands in a stadium and speak to thousands more in a Tibetan cultural centre in Toronto.

The Dalai Lama is teaching a course called “long life empowerment, long life ceremony and eight verses of training the mind” at the Tibetan Canadian Cultural Centre today.

Many lined up in the rain to pack themselves into the large building where he is speaking.

On Friday, the Dalai Lama gave a public talk at the Rogers Centre, where 15-thousand listened to the 75-year-old leader speak about achieving peace by overcoming conflict “with dialogue.”

On Saturday, the Dalai Lama met with media at a Toronto hotel, where he touched on a range of topics — including preserving the Tibetan language and culture in China, and the origins of his famous sense of humour.

The Dalai Lama is scheduled to fly out of Toronto on Monday.

The exiled leader fled China as a young man in 1959 after a failed uprising against communist rule.

He has lived in India ever since.
