One Of Two Suspects Arrested In Markham Home Invasion

Police have arrested one of two suspects in a violent home invasion robbery in Markham last month.

Detectives say on the evening of Oct. 25, two masked men forced their way into a house on Boswell Road, near Highway 407 and Ninth Line. The suspects allegedly assaulted two women inside, aged 91 and 43, before fleeing with a purse and a victim’s BMW. The abandoned car turned up near Jane Street and Finch Avenue West not long after.

The women were treated in hospital for minor injuries.

On Thursday, Nov. 4, Toronto police arrested a 29-year-old man, Jawara Brown, on unrelated weapons offences. But after further investigation and a search of Brown’s Toronto home, officers allegedly found five loaded handguns and stolen property from the home invasion.

As a result, Brown was charged last Thursday with armed robbery, forcible confinement, wearing a disguise and several weapons offences. He was scheduled to appear in a Newmarket court on Friday.

The second suspect is still at large, described only as male and around 20 years old.

Police are also still searching for three suspects in a fatal home invasion in Markham on Nov. 8.

During that robbery, armed men reportedly stormed a house near Kennedy Road and Highway 407 and shot and killed Bich-Ha Pan, 53. Her husband, 57-year-old Huei Hann Pan, was also shot, but survived. The couple’s 24-year-old daughter was tied up and wasn’t hurt.
