Principal Of Africentric School To Return

The principal of Canada’s only Africentric school is coming back to work.

Thando Hyman was on a personal leave from the Toronto District School Board while they investigated a complaint against her. The investigation is complete, the Board said Thursday.

In the interim, Hyman, a black woman, was replaced by George Brown Jr., a former principal at Crestview Public School and a white male.

Hyman left on October 28 but it’s not clear when she will return.

The Africentric Alternative School was created in response to high drop out rates among black students. It opened in September 2009 after surpassing its minimum enrolment requirements and shares a location with Sheppard Public School.
