TORONTO, Ont. – After a recent trip to Africa, the Michael “Pinball” Clemons Foundation decided to make a commitment to build 131 new schools in Kenya.
Clemons told 680News that for an underdeveloped community, a school can be the beginning to something much bigger.
“Not just helping people out but actually empowering them to be able to have the kind of dignity when they become independent and they don’t continue to depend on resources from other people,” Clemons said.
His foundation has teamed up with sports radio station FAN590 and donations are being accepted on their website at FAN590.com.
For every $8,500 a new school will be built.
Clemons told 680News that he will be in Africa helping out, even though construction is not his field.
“We are going (to Africa), we are spending time (in Africa), we are spending time with the people. We are working and building on projects. When it comes to the building part, I’m probably more (of a) liability,” Clemons said.
Clemons truly believes that education creates positive impact within communities and hopes that this initiative can create sustainable communities in third world countries.
Clemons told 680News that he is also working in other countries such as; Ecuador, India and Haiti.
When entering a third world country, outsiders are usually expecting to see poverty but Clemons said what you can see now are “communities that are really coming together.”
They are being taught about health issues and the school is becoming the catalyst for sustainable communities.
Clemons said that 100% of the donations are going directly to building schools.
