New Year’s Day: What’s open and closed

TORONTO, Ont. – If you’re already looking for something to do on New Year’s Day, you’re in luck. There are plenty of places open around the GTA.
If you want to kick off 2011 with something fun and exciting, the Metro Toronto Zoo, the Royal Ontario Museum, (ROM) the Art Gallery of Ontario, (AGO) the CN Tower and the Science Centre will all have their doors open to the public.
Most malls will be closed as well as grocery stores, banks and libraries however, the Eaton Centre, Pacific Mall and Vaughan Mills will all remain open if you have the urge to shop.
The TTC will be free from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. on New Years day to get all the late night party-goers home safe. The TTC will be running on a holiday schedule starting at 9 a.m.
GoTransit will also be offering free service on New Years Eve after 7 p.m. and will be running on a holiday schedule New Year’s day.
