Giant Beer Vats Delayed

A convoy of 40 vehicles, including six giant beer vats is now stopped in Milton on the long journey to the Molson Coors brewery by Pearson International Airport.

Originally, the plan had the vats scheduled to arrive at the brewery Tuesday morning.

Officials at Challenger Motor Freight, which is organizing the move, now say the convoy won’t arrive until around 6am on Saturday.

The massive vats combined with a tractor trailer stand at a height of 8.2 metres. This makes it unable for them to travel on highways like the QEW, Gardiner Expressway or the 427, so the route has been planned using only smaller streets.

Power and traffic lines have to be moved to accommodate the height of the vats as the convoy moves along. The recent snowstorm has slowed this process down considerably.

In order not to impede traffic, the convoy only travels from 9pm to 6am.
