Neil Young To Receive Humanitarian Award

Neil Young is being honoured at this year’s Juno Awards for his humanitarian work.

The Canadian icon co-founded Farm Aid with John Mellencamp and Willie Nelson and held the first concert in 1985 to raise money to help save family farms and keep growers on their land. The effort has raised $37 million over 25 years.

A year later Young and his wife Pegi also established the Bridge School for children with speech and physical impairments. Two of his three children have cerebral palsy.

Young will receive the 2011 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award at the Juno Awards, which will be held in Toronto on March 27.

Previous winners of the Allan Waters award include Sarah McLachlan, Bryan Adams and Bruce Cockburn.

The music legend is also up for honours for his work in the studio. Young’s latest record, “Le Noise”, was released in September and has since gone gold in Canada. It’s nominated in three categories at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 13.

The Juno nominations will be held on Tuesday.
