VAUGHAN, ON. – York Region transit users in the Vaughan area may want to prepare for a possible strike.
The strike deadline midnight on Monday morning; however, talks between the union and Veolia Transportation, the company that runs the buses, will not continue until Sunday morning.
Regional officials are hoping talks will progress beyond the deadline but want to give passengers advance notice of the situation just in case.
“We want to make sure that they can carpool with their neighbours or find alternate transit routes that will take them where they want to go,” Kathleen Llewellyn-Thomas with York Region said.
Potential job action would impact 28-thousand riders in Vaughan along with some bus routes in Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Aurora, Markham and King Township.
A strike would not cause any problems with VIVA bus services, and York Region would use them to try to cover some of the affected routes.
