Two women were hurt, one critically, in a two-vehicle crash in Vaughan Tuesday afternoon.
The collision happened around 12:45pm at Woodbridge and Kipling Avenues. Police say a black four-door 2009 Nissan Altima was heading west on Woodbridge Avenue when it crossed the centre line and collided with a black four-door 1999 Volkswagen Jetta.
The driver of the Altima, a 69-year-old woman, was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. The second driver, a 65-year-old woman, suffered non life-threatening injuries.
“It appears that two vehicles were travelling on Woodbridge Avenue and one vehicle crossed the yellow line, causing a head-on collision,” York Regional Police Insp. Angelo DeLorenzi said.
“I can’t speculate as to why she crossed the line. It doesn’t appear the sun would be a problem today, this is not a highway that has a very high speed limit, it’s not a very busy roadway… I would think that probably not paying attention [may have been the cause],” Insp. DeLorenzi added.
Authorities closed Woodbridge Avenue between Kipling and Moonstone Place for the investigation.
