Owner fined, dog euthanized after Vaughan attacks

A Vaughan man has been fined and his dog has been euthanized after a 90-pound German Shepherd attacked three people in Vaughan in January.

One victim, a 66-year-old man, required more than 20 stitches to his face and arm after a close encounter with the large dog.

At the time of the attacks, police said the man would not be charged, but would face bylaw fines. However, last month he was charged with various offences under the Dog Owners’ Liabilities Act.

On Friday, Vitalie Mazur, 41, of North York pleaded guilty to one charge of failure to prevent dog from attacking person and paid a $500 fine. He received suspended sentences for the two other charges.

The dog was euthanized on January 31.
