Homicide suspected after remains of Montreal girl, missing since 1999, found

MONTREAL – Montreal police say they have found the remains of a young girl who vanished over 12 years and the case is now being treated as a homicide.

Jolene Riendeau was last seen on April 12, 1999 leaving a corner store near her home in Pointe-St-Charles, located in southwest Montreal.

Jolene was a 10-year-old at the time.

Police have not released where the girl’s remains were located, but say they may have a line on a suspect.

Over the years since her disappearance, it is estimated close to a million posters were distributed, making her face one of the most recognizable missing children in Quebec.
