Progressive Conservatives deny candidate involved in porn photo tweet

A lewd photo posted on a Tory candidate’s Twitter account has led to a tongue-in- cheek request to ban BlackBerrys in the Ontario legislature to “protect the privacy of members.”

New Democrat Peter Kormos took the swipe after what the Conservatives said was an erroneous report that George Lepp’s BlackBerry camera went off in his pocket and inadvertently took a photo of his penis, which was later tweeted from his account.

“Would the Speaker now and finally impose an absolute ban of BlackBerrys in the chamber to protect the privacy of members?” Kormos said to laughter from other politicians.

Tory campaign spokesman Alan Sakach said no one ever said the picture was Lepp’s, and that he doesn’t know where the photo came from.

“It looks like he was pickpocketed and someone was playing some mischief,” said Sakach. “George was a victim of theft, the photograph was not his.”

Sakach said the Niagara candidate’s BlackBerry was stolen Saturday night when he was “bounced and jostled” by revellers from another event as he left his party’s convention.

He only found out that a tweet was posted with a link to a lewd photo when his son alerted him to it the next morning.

Sakach said Lepp had no idea where the picture came from, and was extremely upset that it was tweeted in his name.

That didn’t stop the initial story to from taking over the Twitterverse.

“George Lepp is a little too serious about government transparency,” tweeted one user.

“Mr. George Lepp, last I checked pant pockets were not see-through,” joked another.

At Queen’s Park, Liberal campaign co-chair Greg Sorbara couldn’t resist taking a shot at the Tories when asked what he would do if it was one of his candidates.

“I would have a very long chat with him about whether he’s chosen the right undertaking,” Sorbara quipped.
