Thunderstorm watch ends for City of Toronto

TORONTO, On. – Environment Canada has ended a severe thunderstorm watch for the City of Toronto and the surrounding area, shortly before 7 a.m. this morning.

The watch, issued in the early morning hours, encompassed most of Southwestern Ontario, including London, Sarnia, Niagara, Hamilton, Wellington County, Peel and York regions, and up north to Barrie and Grey Bruce.

Environment Canada said there was a possibility of severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall.

However, 680News meteorologist Jill Taylor predicted the watch would end quickly, and said the day would soon see sun and heat.

“The watches and warnings will come to an end, will clear out, and a very warm day,” she said. “It will be mainly clear this evening. So, if you have baseball, soccer tonight – not to worry.”

The high for today is 27 °C, but it will feel more like 34 °C.
